Castleford beat Huddersfield at Wembley by 11 points to 8.
Before a crowd of 40,000, the largest ever seen at that time at a rugby league game, Castleford making their first ever appearance in a League Cup final, beat Huddersfield. Although Huddersfield were the strong favourites Castleford were leading 5 points to 3 at half time and managed to hold the lead throughout the game.
